Leaves

Leaves from the backyard. I love the texture and the waviness to them, almost looks like they’re swimming or floating.

I also did some more random shots of watches, chains, etc.

Isn’t All Photography Still Life?

Photographing Lumber

I set out on a mission today to get some photos, but I didn’t have the intention of photographing old piles of lumber. There’s an old sawmill in the industrial side of town that’s been abandoned for years now and so I thought it would make for some interesting photos. When I got there I took a few wide shots and then it happened — I got distracted with a bunch of stacks of old lumber sitting in the yard. I immediately fell in love with the texture and the design of the wood so I got in close and took some photos. Here they are:

Black Swan Fan Poster

So, ‘Black Swan’ was my fave film from last year. Just for kicks, I decided to put together a ‘fan poster’. I never do these types of things, but I felt compelled to give it a try. Here is my final image:

To explain it without giving too much away for the folks who haven’t had a chance to see this film, the idea is Nina, played by Natalie Portman is selected to play the coveted Black Swan in the upcoming production of Swan Lake. Her only obstacle is her inability to seduce the audience as the Black Swan and she is viewed as ‘an innocent puritan’. The image evokes the ‘purist’ being overthrown by the inner demons that she has kept buried in herself so well. I hope that explains it. If not, go watch the movie.

New Photo Layer Manipulations

So I  stumbled on this idea that I can layer multiple layers with frosted textures and manipulate them into an image or in some cases, multiple images. A Rorschach, if you will. This is something I never aspired to create, but I think it looks pretty intense. I’m 100% sure there are other photographers out there that have done this and mastered it to a T, but so far I haven’t seen anything else. Here are a couple of other creations.

Frost’d

Not sure how I even conceived this idea. I had taken some photos of my frosted window this morning and really didn’t know what to do with them. Out of sheer boredom I was messing around in CS2 and began playing with layers and blending modes and voila — I call it ‘Frost’d’.
