The Big E-Z!

Saturday I spent all day photographing one great band after another. Acts included Theset, Open, Parachute!, The Counting Heartbeats, Rude City Riot, The Perfect Trend, Ninjaspy, and so many more. Headlining were Classified, Protest the Hero and Thrice. I’m swamped with photos!!! But a great experience and I hope it happens again next year!DSC_0135DSC_0056DSC_0018DSC_0144DSC_0212DSC_0135DSC_0089DSC_0055DSC_0177

Portrait Project Progress Report

Lydia sent this to me a few minutes ago. I’m am beyond excited!progress

The Big Easy

Saturday I will be in Nanaimo photographing some amazing bands at the very first Big Easy Music Festival. I’m pretty stoked for this. I’ve got a photo pass waiting for me at the gates courtesy of Fuze Magazine in Germany. Pretty pumped! Be sure to check out some photos of Thrice, Protest the Hero, Classified and many, many more awesome bands!bigeasy

New Music!!

These are some albums I can’t stop listening to:

Modest Mouse – No Ones First and You’re Next

Ryan Adams – Cardinology

Wilco – Wilco (the album)

Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs – It’s Blitz

Bat for Lashes – Two Suns

My brother showed me this video for Bat For Lashes. One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen!

Lost and Found!!

This morning I woke up and the first thing I said to myself was “It’s still there”. What I meant by that was I knew in my gut that my camera was still at the location I last saw it. I got up, ate breakfast and headed out to Beaver Lake. When I got to the same spot, I made about 5 steps into the tall grass and lo and behold, there it laid in the tall grass. It had gathered some condensation¬† from the cool weather we’ve been having, but regardless, I am so happy to say we’ve been reunited!

Ups and Downs …………

Last Thursday I had a terrific photo shoot with Ashley from Edge Models. We had a pretty lengthy conversation on traveling, things to do before we die, eating tarantula’s and going down a hill in a giant bubble! Here are some photos for that shoot.

The next day I was heading out to photograph my friend and collaborator Lydia when I realized something not good. I didn’t have my coveted 18-55mm lens in my bag and my film camera was missing as well. I immediately got that sick feeling in my gut and knew that I had left it behind at the location I worked the previous day. I met with Lydia and we headed off to the same location. No luck, but I did have a good time hanging out and taking pics. Hopefully it turns up soon.DSC_0057

Simone part III

The last time I worked with Simone, something horrible happened and most of the photos I had taken vanished. She was cool about it and had some time to meet up again for another shoot to recreate what we did last time and also to do some new looks.DSC_0135DSC_0168DSC_0100My brother Corey from Williams Lake has been in Victoria for a month and has been quite a trooper for me assisting me with shoots and carrying around gnarly light setup. He leaves for home tomorrDSC_0113DSC_0144

Today we found another down, scripture on its back ….

As part of my newly birthed portrait project, I met up with Steve, formerly of Kincaide. They were and quite possibly still are my favorite Victoria based band. While working with Steve he said they were going to be recording one more song as a final farewell which got me pretty stoked. I don’t have their last demo they released, which was recorded with Devon Townsend of ‘Strapping Young Lad’.

I can remember the first time I saw Kincaide, well not really. I was still living in Williams Lake and I was watching a local punk band because I knew a couple of the guys. Back then, Steve still had these sick dreadlocks. I saw him off to the side getting ready to play and without hesitation I said to myself “Whatever band he’s in, they must suck” and walked out. A year later I saw them play Big Fernwood and fell in love with their style and soon they became my all time fave band on the island. DSC_0033DSC_0067

My Bro!

My 16 year old brother Corey has been staying with me for a few weeks now. He’s visiting from northern BC and has been helping me out with all of my shoots. He’s been doing a fab job too! Anyways, we both spent a day downtown yesterday and checked out various spots. Here are some fun photos.DSC_0002DSC_0004DSC_0014DSC_0026DSC_0032

Portrait Project

I ran into Leo and Kyle from Beat Kids on my way to meet Simone. I quickly took their portraits.
